Fabian McCarthy: Kaizer Chiefs Legend Urges Current Squad to Fight for Top-Half Finish

  • Kaizer Chiefs legend Fabian McCarthy has advised the current Glamour Boys squad after their positive start this season
  • The Soweto giants failed to qualify for the MTN8 competition this season after failing to rank amongst the top eight on the Betway Premiership table
  • The Soweto-based side are already walking in the right path to qualify for the competition next year

Kaizer Chiefs legend Fabian McCarthy has called on the current Amakhosi squad to put in maximum effort and secure a top-half finish, highlighting how both the MTN8 tournament and the club’s passionate supporters keenly feel their absence.

The Soweto giants ended last season on a poor note in the Betway Premiership as they failed to make the top eight on the final day, but they made up for that by winning the Nedbank Cup, which was a sweet victory over city rivals Orlando Pirates in the final.

The Glamour Boys have taken a huge step this season, adding 11 new signings to their squad this summer and also starting the league campaign unbeaten after five games.

Kaizer Chiefs could return to the MTN8 next season, but they need to keep up with the momentum they started the campaign with.

McCarthy explains how MTN8 is missing Amakhosi

McCarthy, father of Aden McCarthy, admitted that the MTN8 is missing Kaizer Chiefs in the competition.

“Honestly, I’m even getting goosebumps,” McCarthy told iDiski Times.
“The MTN8 competition is missing Kaizer Chiefs, and more importantly, it’s the Amakhosi fans who are missing out the most. You can see their passion at midweek games, with crowds easily exceeding 10,000, no matter where the team plays in the country. I really feel for the supporters."

The Amakhosi legend went on to advise Nasreddine Nabi and his boys to keep up with the momentum they started this season with so that they can return to the MTN8 tournament.

“That said, I’m encouraging the current Chiefs squad—next season, we want to see you competing in the MTN8 again. I won’t dwell on the early matches, but there’s definitely a positive shift happening within the club. Things are starting to click," he added.
“I wish the team all the best this season. The Chiefs may be absent from the MTN8, and the competition feels their absence, but my heart goes out to the fans because when they show up, they bring incredible energy.”

Kaizer Chiefs fans also shared their thoughts on Fabian's submission about the Soweto giants.
