English Premier League Star Marshall Munetsi Names Kaizer Chiefs Legends in His Dream Five-a-Side

Former Orlando Pirates and Wolves midfielder Marshall Munetsi has opened up about the players who inspired his career.

The 28-year-old joined Wolves on Monday, 3 February 2025, after impressing for French side Reims.

His journey from the PSL to the Premier League has been remarkable. After making his name with Orlando Pirates, the Zimbabwean secured a move to Europe, steadily climbing the ranks in France before sealing a switch to England.

Now in his prime, Munetsi is eager to build on his promising start with Wolves. With the club expected to strengthen in the off-season, he will be hoping to play an even bigger role in the 2025/26 campaign.

In an interview with Wolves, Munetsi was asked to name his five-a-side team made up of Zimbabwean players. His picks reflected both legendary figures and modern-day heroes.

Munetsi's five-a-side list

Munetsi highlighted former Warriors and current FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza, as well as ex-Kaizer Chiefs striker Knowledge Musona, who recently joined Zimbabwean side Scotland FC. He also named Khama Billiat, another former Kaizer Chiefs star now with Scotland FC.

But his ultimate hero was Tinashe Nengomasha, the former Kaizer Chiefs and Warriors midfielder. Munetsi explained that Nengomasha inspired him to wear the number eight jersey for Zimbabwe, describing him as his role model.

Munetsi singles out Peter Ndlovu

He also singled out Peter Ndlovu, praising him as the first African to play in the Premier League and noting how well he represented Zimbabwe on the global stage.

Munetsi added that Musona had been pivotal to the national team for many years, particularly for his consistent goal-scoring ability.

Admitting that it was difficult to choose only five players, Munetsi said he would prefer to select a full eleven, which he felt would have been much easier.

Still, he reserved special praise for Khama Billiat, whom he described as once being Africa’s best player and a long-serving representative of Zimbabwean football.

Munetsi is not the only former Pirates player plying his trade in the EPL. Bafana Bafana striker Lyle Foster is turning out for newly promoted, Burnley FC.

Burnley FC secured promotion

Briefly News previously reported that Burnley FC officially secured their immediate return to the English Premier League following a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Sheffield United.

The win, which took place on Easter Monday, confirmed the Clarets' promotion with two games to spare, sealing their place back in the top flight after being relegated at the end of the 2023/24 season.
