Orlando Pirates' summer signing from Polokwane City, Oswin Appollis, put South Africa ahead in the opening 45 minutes, with Mohau Nkota, who joined a Saudi Professional League side in the summer, and Sphephelo Sithole adding second-half goals to secure the victory over the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations winners. A late strike from substitute Joseph Sabobo for the Chipolopolo proved too little, too late.
Former Mamelodi Sundowns star Sipho Mbule was named Man of the Match after orchestrating play from midfield, providing two assists, and also boosting team morale as Bafana Bafana rounded up preparations for the 2025 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
In the starting line-up, the Belgian tactician stuck with Orlando Pirates defenders Mbekezeli Mbokazi and Nkosinathi Sibisi, while Aubrey Modiba was relegated to the bench with Samukelo Kabini taking up the left-back position.

Broos unhappy despite Bafana's win over Zambia
Broos said that while the victory on Saturday looked convincing, it was not the performance he had hoped for, citing concerns over intensity. He explained that the team didn’t play at full intensity, particularly in the first half, prompting several changes at halftime that disrupted the flow for new players.
The former Cameroon national team coach acknowledged there were positive moments, such as forward runs and passes that led to goals, highlighting Mohau Nkota’s impact, but admitted the overall tempo and intensity of the game were below expectations.

Here is what fans are saying about Broos' brutal verdict about Bafana Bafana's performance on social media.
Eugene Moloba said:
"This is going to be the toughest AFCON tournament, and Bafana is not ready. Small tests against Zambia and Zimbabwe don't make Bafana a strong team; an early exit for Hugo is coming."
Thabiso Selby wrote:
"I am still worried about Sibisi; the guy is not convincing me. Even at Pirates, Zambia almost scored there, passing to him. We are in trouble if we go to Afcon with Sibisi."
Thandaza Bonginkosi shared:
"Hugo Broos and Mkhelele are both lamthuthus, I am telling u we still gonna laugh at them, each time when they lose in AFCON and World cup 🤞😹😹😹."
Mothusi Letsatsi commented:
"Bafana must challenge big teams internationally to test their strength as they will be going to the World Cup?"
Nyon'yezwe Nomasik'sik added:
"It will not be easy at all. Egypt, Angola, Zimbabwe, those are not easy games, but I trust Broos with his squad...... If they progress to the last 16, they might face Morocco or Mali..... It will not be easy."
