Stellenbosch FC have secured the services of Bafana Bafana left-back Terrence Mashego on a season-long loan from Mamelodi Sundowns, bolstering their defensive options ahead of the 2026-27 Betway Premiership season.

The club announced the signing in an official statement, saying the arrival of the experienced defender would strengthen the squad.
"Stellenbosch Football Club is pleased to confirm the signing of defender Terrence Mashego on a season-long loan from Mamelodi Sundowns," the statement read.
Mashego reunites with Gavin Hunt
The transfer marks a second collaboration between Mashego and Stellenbosch head coach Gavin Hunt. Hunt had previously arranged for the defender to join Durban City on loan during the 2025-26 campaign, where Mashego performed well before Hunt departed midway through the season.

Despite his strong form, the 30-year-old was unable to reclaim a starting role under Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso, making a move away from Chloorkop the logical next step.
His time at Durban City did end on a high note, however, with the club lifting the Nedbank Cup, a piece of silverware that adds to an already decorated career.
A wealth of domestic and international experience
Terrence Mashego joins Stellenbosch with an impressive track record after enjoying sustained success at Mamelodi Sundowns. During his spell with the Tshwane giants, the left-back helped the club secure three Betway Premiership titles.
He also played a role in South Africa's memorable third-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d'Ivoire, marking one of Bafana Bafana's best performances in recent history.
Stellenbosch FC chief executive Rob Benadie believes Mashego's experience will strengthen the team. He praised the defender's achievements at both club and international level, saying the club is confident his quality and winning mentality will make a valuable contribution to the squad. Benadie also expressed his excitement at welcoming Mashego to Stellenbosch.
Reports had previously indicated that Mashego's chances of featuring regularly under Cardoso at Sundowns were slim, effectively paving the way for his switch to the Cape Winelands.
Bafana star dumps Kaizer Chiefs
Briefly News also reported that a South African international has decided to leave Kaizer Chiefs for a new club in Europe after a tremendous performance in the just-concluded season.
The Bafana Bafana star is expected to be competing in the UEFA Champions League next season with his new club.
