Mamelodi Sundowns Terminate Bafana Bafana Star’s Contract As They Signed Orlando Pirates Target

Mamelodi Sundowns closed the PSL transfer window on Monday with two significant pieces of business: the quiet release of winger Kobamelo Kodisang and a deadline-day swoop for AmaZulu defender Wandile Dube.

Kodisang, 27, arrived at Chloorkop in 2024 after attracting interest from several European clubs, with Kaizer Chiefs also heavily linked before Sundowns secured his signature. His time at the club, however, never gained momentum. He managed 13 appearances in his debut season, contributing two goals and two assists, before being sent out on loan.

His first loan move took him to Stellenbosch FC, where he featured only five times. A second stint followed at Portuguese outfit AVS Futebol SAD, where he again made five appearances and scored one goal. On returning to Sundowns after both spells, the club deemed him surplus to requirements.

Kodisang pushed for a contract termination before Monday's midnight deadline, a move that allowed him to register with a new club outside the transfer window as a free agent. Had the two parties not reached an agreement in time, he would have been forced to wait until the January transfer window before signing elsewhere.

Sundowns Pip Pirates to Land Wandile Dube

While the Kodisang situation was being resolved, Sundowns were simultaneously working to complete a deal for AmaZulu left-footed centre-back Wandile Dube. Orlando Pirates had initially shown interest in the defender, but Sundowns maintained pressure on AmaZulu and ultimately convinced the Durban club to sell.

Dube was photographed arriving in Johannesburg on Monday afternoon before travelling to Chloorkop for his medical tests. He passed the assessment and subsequently signed a three-year contract with the reigning African champions, making the deal official before the window slammed shut at midnight.

The two pieces of business rounded off what was an otherwise measured transfer window for Sundowns, with most PSL clubs having completed their recruitment activity earlier in the season.
