‘These Are Really Stunning Pictures,’ Fans React to Faf de Klerk’s Namibia Family Holiday

  • Faf de Klerk, recently recalled to the Springboks squad, didn’t get a chance to play during the team’s latest tour of New Zealand
  • Instead, the scrumhalf took time off with his family, sharing a series of photos from a scenic desert getaway in Namibia with his wife and young daughter
  • South African fans were quick to react on social media, flooding the posts with praise for the family snapshots

Less than a week after flying to New Zealand as a late inclusion in the Springboks’ squad, Faf de Klerk has traded rugby boots for desert sand, sharing snaps on Instagram on 8 September 2025, of a family getaway in Namibia.

The 32-year-old scrumhalf was called up for the two-Test tour against the All Blacks but never featured in either of Rassie Erasmus’s matchday squads for Auckland or Wellington.

South Africa slipped to a 24–17 defeat at Eden Park, before naming an unchanged side for this weekend’s clash in Wellington.

Instead, De Klerk was pictured unwinding in Sossusvlei with his wife, Miné and their daughter Remi-Ré. Miné, who is pregnant with the couple’s second child due in November, joined him in the family holiday shoot. “Sossusvlei with my crew,” De Klerk wrote on Instagram, posting images of the family trekking across dunes.

The former Sale Sharks man last turned out in green and gold during mid-year fixtures against Italy and Georgia. His recent recall had raised expectations of a return to action, but the Bok coaches opted for other options at scrumhalf.

His latest inclusion in the Springboks squad was explained by head coach Rassie Erasmus, who also clarified why Bongi Mbonambi was unable to travel with the team ahead of their Rugby Championship clash against the All Blacks of New Zealand.

For now, De Klerk seems content swapping line-breaks for family time, with the Springboks’ next assignment looming large without him.
