Springboks Have All Blacks Covered for Decisive Third Test, Says Kurt-Lee Arendse

Kurt-Lee Arendse believes the Springboks have put measures in place to deal with the All Blacks’ dangerous attack when the teams meet at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 5 September 2026.
Speaking on Wednesday, 2 September, Arendse said the Boks have changed their approach after focusing too heavily on New Zealand during the opening Test.
“We know the All Blacks are good at attacking space, and we’ve put things in place to counter that,” Arendse said reports SA Rugby Magazine.
“In the first Test we focused more on them than on us. This time we’ve focused more on ourselves, on where we need to improve. I think we’ll manage it.”

Kurt-Lee Arendse welcomes backline change
Arendse will make his 34th Springbok appearance, with Cheslin Kolbe moving to fullback and Ethan Hooker joining him on the wing. The Mamelodi-born wing dismissed concerns over the adjustment.
“The tools are pretty much the same as always,” he said. “I’ve played with different players before, and I think it’s fine.”

FNB Stadium promises a huge atmosphere
Arendse is also expecting FNB Stadium to be rocking when the Springboks return to Soweto. The winger has previous experience of the venue’s famous atmosphere, having attended the 2023 Soweto Derby.
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s Test, he recalled the energy generated by the supporters during that match and predicted a similarly intense reception for the Springboks.
Arendse said the crowd could play a major role in creating an electric setting for the clash. He added that the players were looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere from the field this time around.
Reflecting on his previous visit, Arendse described the support at the derby as “incredible” and said he expected the same passion when South Africa take on New Zealand.
Eben Etzebeth earns huge praise from Victor Matfield

The veteran lock impressed Springbok legend Victor Matfield, particularly with his work at the lineout. The former Springbok lock went even further, describing Etzebeth as “probably the best Springbok of all time”.
