A huge statue which was recently unveiled in New York City, United States, is making waves.

The black-coloured 7.5m-tall carving situated in Rockefeller Center, according to Breaking911, was sculpted in honour of the African culture.

A video capturing the moment of its unveiling has already garnered over 975k views as of the time of making this report.

It is said to have been designed by an African American artist, Sanford Biggers. Tweeps bickered over why it should be tagged "in honour of African culture". The statue takes the form of a big-headed personality seated on a throne with a golden torch in one hand.

Meanwhile, Briefly News previously reported that Brazil is building another statue of Christ that is bigger than the one in Rio De Janeiro.

The monolithic construction has been in progress since 2019 and is scheduled to be completed later this year.

The statue will be named Christ the Protector and once it is completed, it will be one of the tallest statues of Christ on the planet, towering a massive 43 metres tall according to eNCA.

The statue of Christ the Redeemer is 30 metres tall and was completed in 1931 and has become synonymous with the country of Brazil.
