Meet Dr Moipone Tlapu - the woman dedicated to helping drug addicts

Working with drug addicts is an extremely tough job but also requires a heart of gold. Dedication and empathy are important when helping addicts. Those are qualities that Dr Tlapu has in abundance - making her the best kind of person to help those who really need it.

Dr Moipone Tlapu is the director of the Training, Learning and Rehabilitation Centre in Maboloka Village in Brits, North West that aims to help drug addicts.

People who end up here are those that others have given up hope on - the rejects and misfits. But the good doctor knows under the addict hides a scared person who also needs and wants love and acceptance.

This is likely what makes her so good at helping drug addicts that are looking for a new lease on life.

The Daily Sun reports Dr Tlapu will be hosting a mental health awareness event on the 24th of November.

Dr Tlapu has invited recovering addicts and those who are recovering from depression to the event.

She wants them to share their stories and experiences with people and educate them on the realities of addiction and depression.

We want to reach out to people in the community. There’s a high number of drug abuse, suicide and depression cases.

The doctor is confident that they are making a difference and helping to close a gap that even the Department of Health struggles with.

The centre helps addicts by talking with them, finding out what they need and then referring them to the right rehab centres in the area.
