EFF Deputy-President Floyd Shivambu has said that the party is very happy with its performance in this year's election.

Shivambu made the comments at the IEC results centre in Tshwane on Thursday evening.

He claimed that the EFF was the only party which had seen significant growth in this election.

According to the most recent tally, the EFF has claimed 10.08% of the vote, although the counting is not yet complete. This is an increase from it's showing in the previous election.

The party only received 6.35% in 2014, for example, which was the first election it contested.

However, the party's incendiary rhetoric had implied that the EFF had a genuine shot at winning this election. The results thus far indicate that the presidency is still far out of the party's grasp.

Nevertheless, Shivambu appeared undeterred by this. "This shows the confidence that the people of South Africa have in the EFF," he said, according to News24.

He said that the EFF had grown by 70% while the DA and ANC were either stagnating or losing support.

Additionally, Shivambu pointed out that the results in several metros had not yet been announced.

He expressed optimism that the red berets could claim some of them and become the official opposition in others, Briefly.co.za has gathered.
