The internet exploded in an online argument over a post on social media claiming that former president Nelson Mandela died at 67. The post insists that this is the reason people celebrate 67 Minutes on the 18th of July.

The social media user goes further and claims that the person they thought they knew and loved as Mandela had been replaced by a clone of an actor to replace Mandela.

Briefly.co.za learned that other social media users were quick to jump to defend Mandela's legacy, while others shared a different view on Madiba.

The original uploader of the post had a string of evidence he added under his tweet to support his theory.

Other social media users weighed in with their thoughts and reactions.

A phenomenon does exist called the 'Mandela Effect' where a lot of people were convinced that Mandela had died in the 1980's. It is often used to describe an event that is remembered differently by a large portion of the population.
