The former NASCAR driver is married to his long-time girlfriend Cathleen Craven. The pair tied the knot in 1996 in an intimate wedding ceremony. They have been blessed with three children, Riley, Richard, and Lydia. The couple prefers to keep their personal life away from the limelight.

Career

Craven discovered his love for car racing when he was still young. At the age of 15, he had already won twice at the Unity Raceway and went home with the Rookie of the Year Award. The following year he grabbed 12 feature events and the track championship. In 1984, he won the track championship at the Wiscasset Speedway along with the Rookie of the Year title.

He made his first appearance at the NASCAR at Oxford Plains Speedway but finished 25th after his car’s engine failed. In 1990, he ran the Butch North Series taking home the Rookie of the Year Title. The following year, he became champion of the series after winning ten times in the No. 25 Chevrolet. In 1992, he moved to the Busch Series full-time.

From 1993 to 1994 in the championship standings, he finished second. In 1995, he joined forces with Larry Kendrick Motorsports and Kodiak to run for the Winston Rookie of the Year. He qualified 31 races, finished top ten four times and got the award. In 1996, he had three Top Ten finishes but, unfortunately, crashed his car on his 130th lap. He parted ways with Hedrick for the No. 25 Chevy at Hendrick Motorsports.

In the 1997 Daytona 500, he finished third. That year he cancelled on two races due to injuries he suffered in a car crash. In 1998, he also missed several races because of the injuries and was diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome.

1999 was a terrible year for him after he joined SBII Motorsports to drive the No. 58 Ford Taurus. He never finished top 18 and failed to qualify for the Coca-Cola 600. He joined the Midwest Transit Racing team until 2000.

In 2001, he teamed up with PPI Motorsports to drive the No. 32 Ford. He was first at the Michigan International Speedway and in the Old Dominion 500. He also won his first Winston Cup. In 2002, he won two poles and scored 9 top-ten finishes.

2003 was a historic year for Ricky. On March 16, at the 2003 Carolina Dodge Dealers 400, he won the 100th NASCAR car series after he stared 31st beating Kurt Busch.
