Today marks 31 whole years since Nelson Mandela was released from a prison on Robben Island in Cape Town. Upon his release, Mandela was given his possessions which consisted of 22 boxes and one surfboard.
To commemorate this important day in history, hundreds of South Africans have headed online using the hashtag, #Mandela, to express their thoughts on the struggle hero and first black president of South Africa.
While many celebrated Mandela's release and importance in history, not everyone thought that he deserves any praise. Briefly.co.za took a look at the various tweets that have popped up from locals using the hashtag.

'"I have fought against white domination. And I have fought against black domination...it's an ideal I am prepared to live for, and it's an ideal I am prepared to die for" ~Nelson Mandela. What's black domination did he fight against? Where did this happened in history?'

"Mr. I have fought! To this day, we are still to be told what black domination Mandela was talking about during his trial! Where and with whom did he fight against Black domination? It was a sellout position!"

In other Briefly.co.za political reports, President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa has been on the receiving end of tons of hate on social media. South Africans have expressed their distaste at the president's handling of the Covid-19 pandemic as well as load-shedding and other reasons.
Hashtags such as #RamaphosaMustFall and #RamaphosaCollapsedSEOs have been dominating Twitter trends. Now, #MatamelaLeadUs is trending on the social networking site as SAns ask for guidance and compliment the president.
Many are sharing positive aspects of the president's time in office but there are negative posts about the hashtag being a paid promo.
