Member of Parliament Phumzile Van Damme this week took to social media to wish her lovely mother a happy birthday.
In the heartfelt post, @zilevandamme thanked her exceptional mother Sibongile Lynette Van Damme for the example she set. Sibongile boasts a PhD from Rhodes University and the daughter praised her mother for making sure Phumzile and her little sister, local model Qiniso Van Damme, always had access to the best opportunities.
Phumzile affectionately writes:
"Please join me in wishing my mother a happy birthday. The one who taught me to be excellent, but humble. To work hard, but rest & have fun. To be of independent mind, but willing to listen to other opinions. To love with all my heart, but be discerning about who I give my love to."
Sure not to leave her little sister Quiniso out of the festivities, she adds:
"@qinisovandamme & I are lucky to have her. She worked damn hard to make sure we had the best opportunities and use those to pursue excellence in all we do. I know she is a mother to many. When she was doing her PhD at Rhodes a few years ago the other students called her 'mother'."
Social media users were enthusiastic to wish the studying mother well on her big day as well. Read some of their comments below:

Meanwhile, Briefly News previously reported that the emergence of Qiniso Van Damme as The Bachelorette South Africa did not surprise many, considering the massive support she has received since the competition began. The "quirky, sassy, sexy, smart, and confident" lady made history as the first woman to share a French kiss with Marc.
Van Damme is a model, actress and anthropology Master's student. The gorgeous model is known for her love for study, but then, when she is not studying, she is in front of the cameras, cooking for friends, or hiking on Table Mountain.
She models for My Friend Ned, a Cape Town and Johannesburg agency that scouts for new and unexpected talent from the streets.
Qiniso was born to a South African mother and a Swazi father. She is partly Belgian and South African. At the moment, she is a Master's of Social Science student at the University of Cape Town, where she is studying social anthropology. Apart from her studies, the celebrity has also made a name for herself as a sought-after model.
Since she picked a career in the entertainment industry, she has featured in different big-brand advertising campaigns.
More so, as an intelligent lady, she speaks different languages fluently apart from the English language, including IsiXhosa, isiSwati, isiZulu. She reportedly speaks Spanish well and is also learning the Afrikaans language.
