"There are moments when we're on stage, acting and receive a standing ovation, and people telling you that you are good, but after that moment, you have nothing back at home. As soon as you leave that stage, you have no money in your pockets to go back home. But just a few moments ago, you were told that 'I have never seen such a thing', but you have nothing," he said.
He spoke about a stage actor who nailed his set but usually has no money for transport to get back home. "That time, it is R17 to get back home. But you do not have it," he emphasised.

The actor further gave advice on how actors should live their lives without suffering the adverse effects of the hype.
"Do not get too happy because after happiness comes real tears. So when you really need to celebrate, do it but minimise it and quickly calm down," he advised. "When you get too excited, chances are that after the rise, there is a steep," he stated.

Netizens reacted to Thulani's views, saying actors desperately need to equip themselves with other skills if they run out of work. Just recently, Glen Gabela cried for help to Mzansi after showing off his living situation.
@thato_stalion argued:
"Why do actors/actresses want to be treated differently from most of us who do 9-5. We all go through the same things they go through, so it can’t always be rosy for them. If acting is not paying, why not hustle like the rest of us?"
@TalkLawMonare asked:
"Bra Dave, may you please ask the guys in the industry how we may help. Not necessarily with money but with things like reviewing their contracts, negotiating the contracts, brand development and leveraging their image rights and endorsement deals, drafting proposals, etc. We're here."
@SirDavid_Dashe stated:
"No wonder our celebrities abuse substances so much. Yhoooo kuningi. Does Gayton McKenzie know about the situation of our actors? What are his plans, or is he only focusing on young podcasts, lads?"
