Lisa Koppel, the wife of South African R&B singer Danny K, has been remembered for the extraordinary courage she displayed while battling an illness before her death at the age of 41.
The model-turned-lawyer died on Sunday, 9 August, which was also Women’s Day in South Africa. Her death was confirmed by actress Justine, who described Lisa’s final battle as one of the most difficult experiences of her life.
Lisa, whose father is prominent attorney Billy Gundelfinger, leaves behind her husband and their three children, Jayden, Kyle and Chloe.

While details surrounding Lisa’s illness have not been publicly disclosed, Justine spoke candidly about the strength Lisa showed as her health battle became increasingly difficult.

Describing her as one of the bravest people she had ever known, Justine said Lisa confronted her illness with determination and courage.
“When Lisa faced the most brutal battle imaginable, she fought with such fortitude, powerful determination, extraordinary courage and phenomenal heroism,” she wrote.
Justine added that Lisa’s resilience left her in awe, describing her as “the bravest and strongest woman I have ever known”.
“Her resilience was beyond comprehension. I will forever be in awe of the strength with which she faced even the greatest adversity,” she said.
Away from her battle with illness, Lisa was known for her career as a model, lawyer and businesswoman. However, according to Justine, her greatest priority was always her family.
She described Lisa as hardworking, caring, generous and remarkably modest, saying her husband and children were “the centre of her universe”.
“The boundless love, strength, kindness, patience, and good values she gave them will live within them forever,” Justine wrote.
For Justine, Lisa’s passing on Women’s Day made her loss even more poignant. She said Lisa represented many of the qualities she admired in women, including strength, grace, kindness and resilience.
“There is something deeply poignant about honouring Lisa on Women’s Day because to me, she embodied everything extraordinary about being a woman,” Justine said.
Rather than focusing only on her death, she encouraged those mourning Lisa to remember the life she lived and the love she gave to those around her. She described Lisa as a woman with a generous spirit, incredible style, grace and elegance, while highlighting her devotion to her family.

Lisa Koppel’s passing comes as Mzansi continues to mourn the loss of beloved figures in the entertainment industry.

The Sebogodi family also disclosed the cause of his death, which occurred on the evening of Wednesday, 15 July 2026.
