Two-time Grammy Award winner Tyla is home, and she has brought a gift for her Joburg Tygers. The South African superstar, who performed the national anthem at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, sat down with eNCA for an outdoor interview at Gold Reef City in Johannesburg to share the news.
Speaking on camera with on-screen graphics confirming the location and date as 11 August, Tyla revealed she is in town primarily for a well-earned break. "I'm home for a break. I wanted to see the family, see my friends, and just have a vibe," she said. But the trip is not purely personal.
Tyla's A-Pop Day at Gold Reef City
Speaking to eNCA news, Tyla announced that on Sunday, 16 August, she will host what she is calling an 'A-Pop Day' at Gold Reef City, a dedicated fan appreciation event for her South African supporters. She was clear about the sentiment behind it:

"The Joburg Tygers were my first Tygers to ever know me and support me. So I really feel good that I'm able to come back and just appreciate home and also just the OG Tygers."
Growing up in the south of Johannesburg, the city holds a deeply personal place for the internationally acclaimed artist. She described it as the place that built her, both as a person and as a performer. Gold Reef City, she added, has always held a special meaning for her, making it the fitting venue to celebrate her roots with the fans who backed her from the very beginning.
Keeping it real back home
What struck many viewers was how grounded Tyla came across throughout the interview. When asked what keeps her connected amid a whirlwind global career, she did not hesitate.
"Family is so important to me, and home is so important to me because there's no place like this in the world. So when I have to travel across all the oceans and go to all these new places, I always love to find time to touch back home and just connect back to my roots."
