South African media personality Sizwe Dhlomo has publicly called out Akon for making what he described as a false claim about rapper Styles P's heritage during a recent interview segment.
The clip in question comes from Finesse or Fail, a sit-down interview-style show produced by Complex News, which aired on Wednesday, 12 August 2026. In it, Akon tells host Izzy Izzo that Styles P is from Ghana, a claim that did not go down well with Dhlomo back home.
Sharing the video on X, Dhlomo fired back with a pointed caption:
"Akon is lying again! Styles Pinero's mom is from South Africa, KZN to be specific."

What Akon said about Styles P
In the viral clip, Akon, who previously sparked backlash with his comments about black South Africans, enthusiastically attributes Styles P's roots to Ghana, calling him "African" and urging Izzy Izzo to ask Styles directly. The segment has a nostalgic, conversational tone as Akon and the host discuss Styles P's impact, with the Don't Matter hitmaker crediting the rapper for giving his record Locked Up its hip-hop credibility.
"It wasn't until Styles jumped on that record that it was now labelled hip-hop," Akon said during the interview.
Dhlomo was having none of the Ghana claim, and Mzansi quickly piled on in agreement.
