Cassper Nyovest has spoken candidly about his personal struggle with depression and how living through it reshaped everything he thought he knew about mental health and suicide. The South African hip-hop heavyweight admitted that before his own diagnosis, he could not understand how anyone could reach a point of considering ending their life.

He had long viewed such thoughts as a sign of weakness or selfishness, and believed that most of life's hardships, whether financial, career-related, or emotional, were simply problems waiting to be solved.

That thinking crumbled when he found himself in the grip of depression. Cassper Nyovest described the experience as feeling completely trapped inside his own mind. He explained that he came to understand, in a deeply personal way, why someone suffering might desperately want the pain to stop.

The recovery was neither quick nor simple. Cassper turned to his Christian faith as his primary anchor, choosing not to pursue medication. He was clear, however, that faith did not offer instant relief. "

"I never thought I would feel this again"

Looking back at how far he has come, Cassper shared a moment that stayed with him: leaving the gym one day and being struck by an unexpected wave of joy. He said:

"I was just happy. I never thought that I would feel this at any point in my life again."

That moment brought into sharp relief just how consuming the darkness had been and how impossible it once seemed that it would lift. Today, the rapper says he feels free, has made peace with releasing control, and is choosing to live one day at a time. His message reached beyond his own story, directed at anyone currently battling depression or suicidal thoughts. He said:
