Podcast host and social commentator Penuel Mlotshwa has found himself at the centre of a social media storm after posting a statement on X that many users have described as deeply offensive. The post, shared on Tuesday, 1 September 2026, quickly attracted widespread criticism from South Africans across different communities.

In the post, Mlotshwa, who is known for his controversial takes, expressed a wish that the Zulu people had a "visionary king" who would have dispatched Zulu men across South Africa to impregnate women from other tribes as a strategy for expanding the Zulu empire. He also suggested that such a leader would have established Zulu schools, which mirrors an idea previously shared by activist Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma, and churches in every province across Southern Africa. He concluded by lamenting that both the Zulus and other tribes currently lack "real leaders."

The response from users was swift and pointed, with many feeling that Mlotshwa had wasted an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to conversations about African leadership and development.

"Thought you were going to say Zulu people should send their people overseas to Japan and other places so that they acquire skills in engineering, robotics and other skills so that they come & become masters of industry and lead development in South Africa, and yet here you are thinking of sex. You are busy complaining that Universities are employing foreigners. Please educate your own people so that they occupy these roles."

"Your post disrespects the current Zulu King and treats other tribes as expendable. Penuel responds to Malema over child maintenance claims
