A clip from a Newzroom Afrika studio interview with Ekurhuleni mayoral hopeful Themba "Skeem GP" Nzimande is making the rounds on X, drawing a mix of laughs, support, and straight-up embarrassment from Mzansi. The footage, shared on Monday, 7 September 2026, shows Nzimande in conversation with journalist Xoli Mngambi, laying out exactly why he believes Ekurhuleni needs fresh leadership.
Skeem GP explains why he wants to be Ekurhuleni mayor
Nzimande, who is the Afrika Mayibuye Movement's candidate for the Ekurhuleni mayoral position, painted a bleak picture of the city's state during the interview. He pointed to broken traffic lights, alleging that intersections along Ekurhuleni's roads are largely being managed by hobos rather than the city's traffic officers. He also took aim at the traffic cops themselves, claiming that at times they lack the basic paperwork to issue fines and have been spotted operating in unmarked private vehicles.
"Most parts of Ekurhuleni lane are controlled by hobos. It's the only city. And I'm saying this is the only city that we've never experienced a PSL game. We don't have an international convention centre, but we are saying it's a city," he said during the interview.

Nzimande added that the experience of witnessing the city's deterioration pushed him to step forward as a leader, saying he decided to "put my passport forward and bring my experience" before going back to school.
The clip was posted to X by @ZizinjaAbelungu, and reactions came flooding in fast.

Not everyone was dismissive of what Nzimande had to say. Some residents related closely to the picture he painted of daily life in the area.

Others were less forgiving of his on-screen delivery.
