Radio personality Anele Mdoda kept her followers informed on Sunday, 20 September 2026, sharing the apology issued by Zimbabwean businessman Lawrence Mudzinganyama after a video of him threatening women at a Sandton restaurant went viral.

Mudzinganyama had already been arrested and released on bail by the time the apology surfaced, with Anele having previously shared the police case number on her timeline after a case of intimidation was opened at Randburg police station. The Gauteng provincial investigation unit is now also involved in the matter.

While some men marched against GBV following the Ekurhuleni murders, Anele noted his apology. Her caption was blunt: "Just keeping y'all updated. Uthi, he is sorry."

What happened at Vlamo Restaurant

The controversy stems from a widely circulated video showing Mudzinganyama confronting a group of women at Vlamo restaurant in Sandton. According to reports, the alleged incident took place inside the restaurant's ladies' bathroom following a dispute over his advances towards the women. In the footage, he is heard making serious threats, including threatening to shoot and kill them. He also reportedly boasted about his wealth, claiming he could buy the entire restaurant.

The apology, issued in his personal capacity and reposted by Yusuf Abramjee and The Phoenix, described his language as "unacceptable and unjustifiable." Mudzinganyama said he accepts responsibility for his words and conduct, will cooperate with law enforcement, and is seeking professional guidance as well as a conflict-management programme. He also acknowledged that the apology alone cannot undo the fear and distress caused, committing instead to "meaningful, sustained action."
