Woman Accused of Shooting at Rihanna's Home Cleared to Stand Trial After Mental Health Assessment

A judge has ruled that the woman charged with opening fire on Rihanna and A$AP Rocky's Los Angeles home is mentally fit to face trial, clearing the way for criminal proceedings to resume.
Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, 36, from Orlando, Florida, appeared in Los Angeles County court on Tuesday after months of psychiatric evaluations. Judge Maria Cavalluzzi delivered her decision in just a few words: "Criminal proceedings are reinstated." Ortiz, dressed in yellow jail clothes and handcuffs, sat behind glass in a custody area of the courtroom and did not speak during the brief hearing.
The March shooting at Rihanna's Beverly Hills home
According to police and prosecutors, Ortiz drove a Tesla to the Beverly Crest property on 8 March and pointed an AR-15-style rifle out of the vehicle's window, discharging at least 20 rounds at the home and a neighbouring house. The Grammy-winning singer and her rapper partner were inside an Airstream trailer on the property at the time.

Bullet holes were discovered in the trailer as well as on the exterior wall of the second-floor nursery, where Rihanna and A$AP Rocky's three young children were with their nanny. Although the scene was alarming, nobody sustained injuries in the attack. Following her arrest later that day, Ortiz reportedly told investigators:
"I wasn't attempting murder."
Charges and what Ortiz faces
According to NBC News, Ortiz has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder of Rihanna, along with more than a dozen additional felony charges. These include 10 counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, one for each person on both properties at the time, as well as three counts of shooting at an occupied vehicle or dwelling. If convicted on all charges, she faces a potential life sentence.
Authorities noted that Ortiz had no prior criminal record and had worked as a licensed speech pathologist for over a decade. No motive has been publicly established, and investigators have not described any known link between Ortiz and the superstar couple. Both sets of attorneys declined to comment after Tuesday's hearing.
The psychiatric evaluation details remain sealed, and there was no direct discussion of them in court. Ortiz was ordered to appear at a follow-up hearing on Wednesday.
