Anele Mdoda is not backing down. The 947 radio presenter fired back at a social media user who called for her to be removed from broadcasting, after her comments about Springbok captain André Esterhuizen ignited a fierce public debate.

The controversy stems from Mdoda's calls for Esterhuizen to be banned from rugby following a resurfaced 2012 racial abuse incident, which drew fresh attention after he was appointed Springbok captain. An X user then launched a boycott campaign against 947 in response, and one user, @dillysdyllis, went directly after the presenter, calling for her to be removed from broadcasting.

Anele's warning to the trolls

On Saturday, 26 September 2026, she responded with a pointed message directed at those stoking the drama around Esterhuizen. "You need to be very careful with the media storm you are calling towards Andre here," she wrote on X. "It won't end well cause he did use that word."

Her warning was clearly aimed at those who felt she had gone too far, but it also doubled as a defence of her original stance. Earlier that same day, Mdoda was in considerably lighter spirits, posting about a separate rugby-related moment involving the Mabandla family and the #InimbaMzansi conversation, suggesting Thulani Mabandla had made a joke about attending a second matric dance.
