South African author and social media personality Jackie Phamotse has sparked conversation online after sharing her thoughts on Tanzania's strict laws following reports that local influencer Austin Adida Mzukwa was turned away at the Zanzibar border.

Austin Adida Mzukwa, widely known for his lavish lifestyle content on social media, reportedly travelled to Zanzibar to celebrate his birthday. According to a post shared by X user @sanelenkosiii, Austin was denied entry into the island because he is gay, and his travelling companion was mistaken for his romantic partner. Tanzania maintains restrictive laws and policies targeting same-sex relationships and LGBTQ+ people, and the reported incident appears to be a direct consequence of those regulations.

"I love countries that are clear about their laws; we could learn so much from them. South Africa thinks it's the mother of all, but other African countries are not as accommodating. The idea of having an Africa for all is not for everyone. Other African countries don't have the same beliefs, and they are very clear.”
