Lekompo musician and content creator Paul "Tsaka RSA" Madubanyana made his first court appearance on Monday, 12 October 2026, at the Polokwane Magistrates' Court, where he faced charges linked to the alleged possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The case was postponed to 19 October to allow for profiling and a formal bail application, with the state already signalling its intention to fight his release.

State prosecutor Mangope Digoro addressed the court, classifying the charges as a Schedule 5 offence and confirming the state's position against granting bail. Tsaka's legal representative, Advocate Mamabolo, pushed back on that classification, arguing that the prosecution had yet to produce a ballistic report confirming the nature of the firearm allegedly found in his possession.

How Tsaka RSA was arrested

The South African Police Service had confirmed the arrest of a 27-year-old suspect on 9 October, following an intelligence-driven operation in the Rethabile Gardens area of Polokwane. The operation brought together several units, including the Provincial Tracking Team, Provincial Investigation Unit and Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit, alongside Tshimollo Security and Investigations.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said officers were initially executing an arrest warrant tied to a crimen injuria case opened at Lebowakgomo SAPS in 2025. That complaint centred on allegations that the suspect had posted vulgar and insulting remarks about a popular radio DJ on social media.

During the operation, officers reportedly recovered a 9mm Norinco pistol with its serial number filed off, as well as 80 rounds of live ammunition. A separate investigation into the alleged possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition was subsequently opened.

Two separate matters before two courts

The crimen injuria matter and the firearm case are being handled independently. Tsaka is expected to appear before the Lebowakgomo Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, 13 October, in connection with the social media-related charges.
