The hit South African series, Blood Legacy, has wrapped filming and is set to grace our screens soon.

The Netflix drama follows the story of Khanyi Adesina (played by actress Xolile Tshabalala), who returns home to lay claim to her family's business empire before it collapses under the burden of corruption.

The show has captivated fans as it delves into a world where greed meets power and tests the loyalty of siblings.

News of the finalised filming was shared on X by entertainment commentator Jabulani Macdonald.

Fans were excited by the update on the series, which has a star-studded cast including Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa and Seelo Maake KaNcube.

Xolile Tshabalala's on-screen mother, Madlamini Ndlovu, was played by the late actress Connie Chiume.

The veteran actress died on August 6, 2024, in a hospital in Johannesburg after battling an illness.

Jabulani Macdonald revealed on X that her appearance in Blood Legacy was her final role before her passing.

He wrote:

"Watch the legendary Connie Chiume in her final acting role as the Ndlovu family matriarch in Netflix’s new 20-episode drama series, #BloodLegacy."

Connie's daughter, Nothando Mabuza, recounted the day her mother died.

In an interview with Lungelo KM on the Engineer Your Life Podcast, Nothando shared that she walked into her mother's hospital room and saw her bed covered in blood.

"And she had grey braids, and I just held her. I just looked at her and I just said, ‘Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you for everything.’"

Nothando added that the family had barely said their goodbyes when the media started bombarding them with interview requests.

"When we get to the house, there are already people outside with cameras, media. My kid doesn't know, and she's in the house. I'd call my helper, like, ‘Do not tell her anything, this is what has happened. Please just open for the family.’ She's like, ‘There are people with cameras outside.'”

The 72-year-old actress may be gone, but her legacy lives on through her craft.

Xolile Tshabalala told Briefly News she's certain her former on-screen mother is looking down with pride.

"I know Mam Connie is smiling and dancing as she watches the series unfold."

'Generations: The Legacy' among top soapies in Mzansi

In more television entertainment news, Briefly News reported that Generations: The Legacy is still among the most-watched shows in Mzansi, more than 30 years after it first aired.

The news was shared by popular entertainment commentator Phil Mphela, who revealed that Generations now ranked at number two.

The show was beaten by SABC1's Uzalo, which has a strong daily viewership of around 3.5 million.
