Native to Sub-Saharan Africa, the hadada ibis is also known as the hadeda. Its booming three- to four-note calls when in flight, particularly in the mornings and evenings as they depart or return to their roost trees, are what give it its name.

Terrified woman finds a hadeda inside the house

The terrifying surprise led to an uncontrollable scream that echoed through the house and eventually reached social media. According to the post, the lady heard something in her home, which prompted her to go and check it out.

In the now-viral clip, shared by @shiloh.eilers on July 23, 2025, on TikTok, the woman can be seen entering a room and, to her surprise, is met by the bird. She can be heard gasping before unleashing a scream of horror upon spotting the large bird. The hadeda, meanwhile, appeared completely unfazed, calmly perched as if it had no plans to leave any time soon.

Hadeda ibises are commonly seen across South Africa and are notorious for their loud screeches at dawn. Despite their regular presence outdoors, their sudden appearance indoors can leave anyone rattled.

Online, many South Africans couldn’t stop laughing at her reaction and the video caught the atteion of many, gathering loads of views along with thousands of likes and comments.
