Tokoloshes are a mythical cultural figure believed to bring bad luck, death, and even joblessness. A study on a Xhosa community in the Eastern Cape in the Indilinga African Journal of Indigenous Knowledge Systems indicated that some people believe in their existence. A tokoloshe is thought to be a goblin-like entity that is short in stature, with hairy arms, and a beard. It possesses powers, including invisibility and is literally untouchable. The creature is said to torment people at the instruction of witches by poisoning food, tormenting a person during sleep, and other means to cause harm in a person's life.
