The clip of Spur's prices in the past received thousands of likes on social media. People commented on the video, expressing their nostalgia for what felt like an easier life.

In a TikTok video by @nostalgiabait_ a Spur advert promoting a special went viral. The commercial detailed that their 400g ribs were available at a discount. The restaurant invited customers to purchase the ribs meal for R39.95.

In 2025, the average cost of 400g of Spur ribs is R196.90. When adjusted for inflation, the R39.95 ribs from 2004 that were on special would cost R122 in 2025. Despite the 207% jump in inflation over the decades, South Africans remain loyal Spur customers. According to BusinessLive, many still found room to spend at Spur even with tighter budgets. The family restaurant saw a 14% jump in revenue in 2024.

Some online users commented that it would be lovely to go back in time for the prices of the past. Many pointed out that Spur prices were proportional to inflation, and it was out of reach for many in the 2000s. Others remembered that their parents were not able to afford Spur even decades ago.
