A South African woman has ignited political debate after sharing her thoughts on the Democratic Alliance following criticism from a viewer. The video, posted on 1 July 2025, received over 4,000 reactions and hundreds of comments after she responded to someone who claimed she hates the DA more than she loves South Africa.

In her response, the woman argued that it's actually the DA that has harmed South Africa through various actions. She pointed to incidents involving party leader John Steenhuisen, claiming he went to international news channels to inform the world that South Africa was arming Russia without sufficient evidence, despite the country's clear stance on the Ukraine-Russia situation.

She further criticised the DA's inability to work well with other parties, claiming their arrogance damages relationships and prevents effective coalition governance. Her final point focused on what she called the DA's social media tactics, describing their online presence and partnerships with organisations as unprofessional and rude.

South Africans debate political parties

The video sparked heated discussion in the comments section, with viewers sharing mixed reactions:

@Milano alleged:

"And worse, DA went to the USA to get their assistance to rig elections so they can hold on to power and not forfeit their billions spent on Ramaposa to be president of the country on their behalf."

@G*🇿🇦 claimed:

"Anyone who likes the DA hates South Africa."

@Luke Slywalker reflected:

"I used to support the DA, until I saw them for what they really are... It's obviously more than that, as can be seen here."

"The DA does not respect South Africa and its sovereignty; every chance they get, they s**t on SA."

@DJ PATZAZA🥰 simply stated:

"I love DA!"

@Charlie Hope🇿🇦🍉 expressed frustration:

"It's ridiculous, what options do we have when voting 🙄 Each party has major issues, it's like trying to choose between whether you would rather drown or die in a car crash😩"

Coalition government creates new challenges

According to the ANC website, South Africa now functions under a Government of National Unity (GNU), with parties like the ANC and DA sharing power. Content creator @biancasays3 shares her views on public concerns about the difficulties this arrangement brings.

The GNU relies on cooperation across conflicting ideologies, which means citizens are seeing very different political perspectives working side by side. While the Statement of Intent prioritises consensus, unresolved disputes are settled by a 60% majority in the National Assembly. This makes friction unavoidable, especially as parties clash on foreign policy, economic strategies, and governance approaches.
