An American living in Johannesburg has left social media buzzing after sharing his enthusiastic review of a Texas-style barbecue spot in South Africa.

A video shared by Sotallrightnow on Instagram shows the man, who posted the clip, feasting at The Salt Slab.

The man named Joe Fleming explained that The Salt Slab is a braai joint owned by a man named Mike, who runs the establishment from his farm. The diner, who had been eager to visit the spot for a long time, described it as:

"American-style barbecue right here in South Africa."

His excitement was clear as he introduced viewers to the generous spread of food he ordered. On the side, he enjoyed coleslaw, potato salad, creamed corn, macaroni and cheese, cowboy beans, popping samp, and popping radish.

The video, released on 17 September 2025, showcased hearty portions that reflected authentic Southern-style cooking.

Regarding the taste, the American had nothing but praise. After digging in, he declared,

"It’s fantastic."

Before dramatically rating the meal "15 out of 10." His glowing review highlighted both the quality of the food and the effort to bring an authentic Texas barbecue flavour to South Africa.

The clip went viral, with many South Africans intrigued by the prospect of experiencing authentic American barbecue without leaving the country.
