Award-winning content creator Kat Clark took a safari trip in South Africa after having massive doubts about the country. Locals in her post's comment section shared that she wasn't wrong to be scared, while others informed her about the country's beauty.

On 10 August, 2025, the mother of two took to her TikTok account and said:

"I think South Africans have been playing this big prank on us because whenever I said that I wanted to go to South Africa, everyone says to me, 'You don't want to go there. It's so dangerous, you're going to get robbed.'"

Kat shared that her husband, Jonathan, who was born in Durban, wanted to take their daughter, Deja, who was also born in the country, to South Africa. However, the mom was hesitant because of all the negative stories she had heard. With that thought squashed after experiencing a safari trip, Kat noted that South Africans are some of the sweetest people.

During her stay, she showed positivity when her safari guides had dinner with her and her family and friends and participated in fun games.

South Africans respond with mixed feelings

While some local online community members welcomed the Australian content creator to the country, others shared how dangerous certain parts of the country were, hoping that Kat would cut her trip short.

In many foreign travellers' comment sections, South Africans have tried to persuade them not to visit the country. The reason seemed to be that they felt the tourists' presence was the reason for the price hike in accommodations, making house-hunting difficult for locals.

"It is because you are literally in a secure luxury accommodation, not the city. We aren't scared of the animals."

@priya_nayager told the woman:

"We are friendly! Come to Cape Town! Just stay away from those areas you're not supposed to be in, and you're good. You will have the most fun and experiences!"

@not_keags wrote with humour in the comment section:

"Mate, come to Johannesburg CBD, it’s my favourite place. The views are great, the people are really kind, and if you give them your car keys, they’ll even park your car for you. Sometimes they even hide your car."
