A TikTok user known as clinton44472 posted a close-up video on 18 August 2026 that stopped South Africans in their tracks. Filmed outdoors in Tzaneen, Limpopo, the clip shows a massive python moving slowly along a stone ledge bordering a patio, with open dirt ground and greenery visible behind it.

The snake's distinctively patterned body filled the frame. The video spread, and some viewers were immediately sceptical, insisting that a snake that size could not possibly be local. Others saw something more spiritual in the sighting.

South Africa is home to the African rock python, one of the largest snake species on the continent, according to SANBI. The species is not uncommon in Limpopo's bushveld regions, including areas around Tzaneen, where warm temperatures and dense vegetation create suitable habitat. Despite this, sightings such as one captured by @clinton44472 of large specimens close to residential properties remain rare enough to cause a stir whenever they are recorded. Reaction captured a sentiment shared by several viewers who found the size of the snake difficult to accept as something found in a South African backyard.

"That's a python; your ancestors are with you. It cannot be seen by any person."

Morwa🔥 added a word of caution, noting:

"They move in pairs. The other one ain't too far off."

Not everyone was rattled. reefsman_ took a more relaxed view, writing:

"Snakes are actually not bad. Casually just chilling."
