A South African violinist left Mzansi completely floored. Maremo Violin, known on TikTok as @maremo_violin, posted a clip on 3 September 2026 playing a violin rendition of Mandoza’s legendary kwaito anthem, Nkalakatha. Nobody saw it coming, and the internet had a lot to say.
Nkalakatha gets a classical makeover
Nkalakatha, one of the most beloved kwaito tracks in South African music history, is not exactly the kind of song you would expect to hear on a violin. But that is exactly what made Maremo’s version so arresting. He described the process in the most casual way possible, writing in his caption that he was simply playing around with something he had been hearing in his head.
He also revealed that the cover was not entirely spontaneous. It was a song request for an upcoming event he was busy preparing for, and he was testing out how to bring it to life.
