"Well Done": Mr D Delivery Driver Graduates With IT Diploma After 5-Year CUT Journey

• Rorisang Mangole from Mahikeng enrolled at CUT Welkom Campus in 2021 and faced setbacks that stretched his studies to five and a half years
• A strike, a repeated year, and the loss of his NSFAS funding pushed him to find another way to survive while still studying

Rorisang Oikantswe Mangole, a young man from Mahikeng in the North West, graduated with a Diploma in Information Technology from the Central University of Technology's Welkom Campus after five and a half years of pushing through one obstacle after another.

He enrolled at CUT in 2021, but the road to his diploma was anything but smooth. A campus strike in 2022 disrupted his second year, forcing him to repeat it. An outstanding module added further delays, and in 2023 he lost his NSFAS funding, a blow that struck again in 2025 and threatened to derail everything he worked for.

According to CUT, rather than walk away, Rorisang found a practical solution. He signed up as a delivery driver for Mr D and Takealot, using the flexibility of gig work to keep himself afloat between lectures and assignments. He said:

"I needed a way to make some money on the side to help with my everyday necessities, and at that point, delivering was one of the easiest and most flexible ways for me to do that."

The income kept him going through the years when formal funding dried up, and he refused to let financial pressure become the reason he quit. Read Rorisang's story as shared by CUT:
