A Cape Town woman working as a teacher in Shanghai, China, has got Mzansi talking after she shared the jaw-dropping prices she paid for food during her holiday in the UAE.

Content creator @miss_chanelle posted a detailed breakdown of every meal she enjoyed on the 16 of August, converting all prices to South African rands to give her followers the full picture of what dining out costs in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Her food journey started at Ocean Basket in a Dubai mall, where she spent a whopping R1000 plus R335 for a seafood platter with prawns, chips and other treats. The next morning brought breakfast at Breathe by the Beach in Abu Dhabi, costing her R1235 for a spread that included salad, buns with toppings, cake and hot chocolate alongside the full breakfast items.

Even simple snacks came with hefty price tags. At Waitrose in Abu Dhabi, she paid R224 for just two cold drinks and two packets of biltong. Her IHOP breakfast in Dalma Mall cost R391 for pancakes, toast, bacon, sausages and eggs with coffee.

Dinner at Allo Beirut in Khalifa City set her back R612 for local pizza with chips and meat, while dessert at Sanderson's cost another R391 for cake with fresh cream, strawberries and hot drinks.

The prices kept climbing throughout her trip. At Nando's in Al Raha, she spent R1192 on a quarter chicken with potato wedges and sides. A single cocktail at Aura Skypool in Dubai costs R429, and breakfast at Love Vibe came to R796 for the full spread.
