Raisibe Morathi, the Chief Financial Officer of Vodacom Group, took home an estimated R68.8 million for the 2026 financial year, according to the group's remuneration report for the year ended 31 March.
Her compensation package broke down as follows: a guaranteed base salary of R12 million, short-term incentives of R12.4 million, and long-term incentives worth R41.3 million. She also received R2.2 million in dividends and just over R855,000 in security and cellphone benefits. After tax, her net remuneration came to R37.9 million.
From Polokwane to the boardroom
According to reports, Morathi grew up in Polokwane, Limpopo, where her academic ability stood out early. She completed high school in four years by skipping Grade 9. She went on to earn a BCom from the University of Venda before qualifying as a Chartered Accountant.

Her postgraduate studies took her further. She holds an MPhil in Corporate Strategy from GIBS, an Advanced Diploma in Taxation from Wits, a Corporate Governance Certificate from the University of Johannesburg, and an executive certificate from INSEAD.
Her career began as a trainee accountant at Fisher Hoffman, a firm that would later be rebranded as PKF South Africa. In 1994, she joined Nedbank as a structured finance consultant. Over the next 15 years, she held executive roles at HSBC Investment Bank, the IDC, African Merchant Bank and Sanlam, where she served as CEO of Group Services.
She returned to Nedbank in 2009 as Group CFO, leading a finance and operations team of more than 900 people over an 11-year tenure.
Award-winning CFO at Vodacom
Vodacom appointed Morathi as Group CFO on 1 November 2020. One of her most significant achievements in the role was leading the group's 55% acquisition of Vodafone Egypt in 2022, a deal that earned her the DealMakers Deal of the Year award. She also serves on the boards of Vodacom Group and Safaricom.
The awards have followed. In 2023, CFO South Africa named her CFO of the Year. A year later, she claimed the same title at the CNBC All Africa Business Leaders Awards. She has been vocal about the role of technology in finance, championing the use of AI, big data and automated analytics to sharpen financial decision-making across the group.
