WESTERN CAPE – President Cyril Ramaphosa caused a stir online when he praised Democratic Alliance-led (DA) municipalities, but no one is loving it more than Helen Zille.
The DA’s Chairperson of the Federal Council has celebrated the president’s comments by sharing a hilarious image of him on X (formerly Twitter). Zille’s post comes after Ramaphosa commended the way the Cape Town Metro and Stellenbosch municipality were run.

How did Zille respond?
While the statement caused division online, Zille was thrilled by the statement and took to social media to make light of it.
The Federal Council Chairperson shared a cartoon image of the president in DA-themed athletic wear, in reference to comments online that Ramaphosa was now campaigning for the blue party.

The DA also welcomed the president’s comments, even pinning a video of Ramaphosa’s comments to its X account, adding that the party got things done.
How did South Africans react to Zille’s post?
Social media users were amused by Zille’s post, with some stating that Ramaphosa was trying to please his masters, and some saying it spelt the end for the ANC. Other users shared their own images of various politicians representing other political parties, as South Africans found the funny side.

Zille wants answers from Ramaphosa over bribery allegations
Briefly News reported that Zille has at times also criticised President Ramaphosa and demanded answers from him.
In August 2025, the DA's Federal Council Chairperson asked him to come clean about bribery allegations.
The president was Chairman of MTN when the mobile telecommunications provider was accused of bribery in Iran.
