MPUMALANGA — Fikile Mbalula has declared that the African National Congress (ANC) is indestructible, citing divine and ancestral protection as the reason no force can bring the organisation down.
Mbalula, the ANC Secretary-General, was addressing a cultural ceremony hosted by the Mathibela Royal Council in Mpumalanga on Saturday, 6 September 2026, when he made the statement.
Mbalula credits ANC's survival to God and ancestors
Speaking before the gathered chiefs and community members, Mbalula said the ANC's origins inside a church and its founding by kings and priests made it spiritually unassailable.

"The ANC is a big organisation; it belongs to God, it belongs to the ancestors, and chiefs. This organisation was born inside a church, they can try to destroy it but its impossible, because when they try to destroy it the ancestors refuse because it is an organisation that was formed by our kings, it was built by priests," he said.
He urged those present to rally behind the party, insisting that the ANC itself should not be held responsible for the conduct of individuals within its ranks. The ANC's SG said there was nothing wrong with the party, but rather problems stemmed from individuals within the party.
He maintained that no matter who the people were, they must be arrested. During a separate recent address, Mbalula also claimed that the ANC governed well, arguing that coalition arrangements are to blame for the country's service delivery failures.
Mbalula's remarks draw mixed reactions online
The comments caused a stir on social media, prompting a range of responses from South Africans.

Briefly News reported that Mbalula addressed members of St John's Apostolic Church in Katlehong, asking them for their votes.
The African National Congress Secretary-General also asked the church to forgive party members for their transgressions.
