  • The South African Police Service's Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) has responded to reports of an arrest warrant against National Commissioner General Fannie Masemola
  • The director flatly denies that Masemola is the subject of an investigation that resulted in an arrest warrant
  • Some South Africans believed that the allegations were a distraction from the work the police have been doing since KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi made explosive allegations

IDAC's spokesperson, Henry Mamothame, said that the directorate has received various media queries over the past few weeks, which were centered around allegations that a warrant of arrest has been issued for Masemola and other senior police officers.

Masemola and the senior officers have been accused of abusing the Secret Service's slush funds. Masmola has also been accused of conspiring with the head of crime intelligence, General Dumisa Khunmalo, to buy the Veroz Boutique Hotel in Tshwane for over R43 million and the Kyalami Lodge for over R48 million irregularly. Khumalo was arrested on 26 June 2025 at the OR Tambo International Airport and was allegedly charged with corruption.

What did the IDAC say?

Mamothame said that the allegations are untrue as no such warrant was issued. According to IOL, Masemola was also aware of the warrant of arrest issued against him. Economic Freedom Fighters president Julius Malema said in July that an arrest warrant was issued against him. He said that the allegations KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi made on 6 July 2025 delayed the arrest.
