State’s investigations into the Wynberg murder are at an advanced stage
The five suspects arrested in connection with the Dingalomoya Chintso murder case will appear in court again in November 2025, but the State has confirmed that investigations are at an advanced stage.
Chintso, a former taxi operator, was shot dead inside the Wynberg Magistrate's Court in April 2025. He was facing charges of murder and possession of an illegal firearm at the time of his death.
Shireen Mathews, Abubaker Adams, Brian Booysen, Wanay Farao, and Vuyisani Zengethwa were arrested in connection with the crime, with prosecutors alleging that Mathews was the mastermind behind the murder.
With the next appearance just over a month away, the State has provided an update on investigations, saying that the prosecution team were still downloading cellphone data that will help strengthen its case. The State also believes it can prove that Matthews called Booysen to organise guns and also got him to hire the men to carry out the hit.

The prosecution is also confident it can prove that Matthews requested an e-hailing service car to drop off and pick up Booysen and the hitmen.
Police seize illegal firearms in the province
While investigations are underway into current cases, police are also attempting to prevent further murders.
Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Anroux Marais, confirmed that police were able to seize illegal firearms that were contributing to the gang-related shootings.

On Monday, 22 September 2025, police confiscated six AK-47 rifles and eight nine-millimetre pistols with ammunition in Bellville. Eight people were also arrested.
Over the weekend, 20 to 21 September, SAPS and law enforcement officers also seized guns in Tafelsig, Beacon Valley and Hanover Park.
"These operational successes are a testament to the dedication, vigilance and bravery of our officers on the ground. Each illegal firearm taken off the streets is one less weapon that can be used to harm or terrorise our communities," Marais said.
