What did Cat say about Mchunu?
During questioning, Matlala stated that he had never met the minister.
"I place on record that I do not have any relationship with Minister Senzo Mchunu. I have never met Minister Mchunu and have had no interactions with him, nor have I been at any gatherings where he was present," he said.
When pressed by commissioners on whether any contact had taken place on his behalf, Matlala acknowledged one instance of indirect communication.
He confirmed that correspondence relating to confirming whether the two knew each other had been exchanged through their respective attorneys, and that a letter was submitted to the Ad Hoc Committee. He was clear that no direct contact with Mchunu had ever occurred, and that no other parties had engaged the minister on his behalf beyond that single legal exchange.
South Africans weigh in on Matlala’s confirmation
