GAUTENG - Two people were injured after a light aircraft crashed near a business complex in Randjesfontein, Midrand, on Tuesday, 8 September 2026.
The aircraft came down at the intersection of Old Pretoria Road and New Road. Johannesburg Emergency Management Services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi confirmed the injuries and said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
While information about the incident was limited at first, it was confirmed that the aircraft was a Cessna 174. Authorities have not yet indicated whether any ground-level damage occurred at or near the business complex, but the aircraft did appear to crash into a fence.

The crash drew a wide range of responses on social media, with several users referencing the ongoing debate around South African aviation safety, following criticism from the United States over the Airlink flyover at DHL Stadium.
American commentators criticised an Airlink flyover, calling the manoeuvre reckless. When news broke of an Amazon/21 Air Boeing 767 crashing at Miami International Airport, many South African users directed that criticism back at their American counterparts, pointing out that the Airlink flyover was completed with precision and no injuries
Against that backdrop, some users greeted the Midrand crash news with dry humour.
