LIMPOPO — Viral court footage from the Polokwane Magistrates Court has captured a tense public falling-out between Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) officer Peter "Gagash" Nonyane and his wife, attorney Charlotte Tibana, as the two face escalating criminal charges linked to the alleged plundering of deceased estates.

The clip, which has been widely shared on X, shows Tibana holding documents and attempting to address Nonyane while he stood in the dock. Rather than engaging with her, Nonyane repeatedly turned away and moved closer to supporters near the gallery rail, visibly ignoring her efforts to communicate.

35 counts and over R6 million at stake

The courtroom scene unfolded during an ongoing bail hearing in which the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) upgraded the charges against the pair to 35 counts, encompassing fraud, money laundering, and theft. Prosecutors allege that more than R6 million was siphoned from deceased estates under Tibana's management as executor.

According to the NPA, Nonyane is accused of acting with common purpose in spending the misappropriated funds, with prosecutors pointing to the purchase of a Mercedes-Benz AMG G63 among the alleged luxury acquisitions. The charges fall under the Prevention of Organised Crime Act.

Bail was opposed by the State, with prosecutors citing alleged witness interference by Tibana as well as new complainants who came forward with additional claims of estate fraud. The defence argued for the couple's release, but both remain in custody. Nonyane and Tibana have pleaded not guilty to all counts.
