A grieving Duduza family is calling for justice after 21-year-old Thokozani Nyawuza was gunned down inside her own home on Sunday evening, 30 August 2026. The young woman, who was a beloved local DJ, was shot by unknown men who entered the family's residence in John Dube Village while she was cooking supper in the kitchen.
According to DailySUN, Nyawuza's sister, who was in an adjacent bedroom at the time, heard Thokozani call out "Guhambani?" - asking the intruders what was going on - before a single gunshot rang through the house.

The young DJ's mother, Deliwe Nyawuza, was at a nearby salon when a neighbour phoned and urged her to come home immediately. Nothing could have prepared her for what she found.
"I found my daughter's lifeless body lying on the floor, and it was too hard to digest. I just left for a while, and when I came back, I found death in my house. Whoever killed my daughter killed me too."
Deliwe described her daughter as her friend, saying they had a special bond and would occasionally go places together.
Described by those who knew her as a warm, bubbly young woman, Thokozani was well known in her community for her passion for music. She regularly hosted local deejaying sessions and was regarded as a talented DJ with a bright future ahead of her.

Thokozani Nyawuza's family suspect a hit
The Nyawuza family is convinced that Thokozani was deliberately targeted. Nothing was stolen from the house during the incident, and in the days leading up to the shooting, family members noticed an unfamiliar car repeatedly driving past the property, which they now view as a troubling sign.
Ekurhuleni district police spokeswoman Captain Neldah Sekgobela reportedly confirmed that a murder docket has been opened and that investigators are actively pursuing the case.
The family is urging anyone with information about the shooting to contact the police. They are also appealing to Thokozani's father to make contact so that funeral arrangements can be finalised.
"All I want is justice for my daughter. I appeal to anyone who has information to come forward," Deliwe said.
