EASTERN CAPE - The alleged mastermind behind the murder of former boxing world champion Zolani Tete has reportedly confessed to planning the killing.
The confession was made during the bail application of the four men accused of his murder. Tete was shot and killed outside his home in Mdantsane on 21 August 2026. His girlfriend was also wounded in the attack but survived.
The case drew national attention given Tete's status as a celebrated South African boxing champion.

Alleged mastermind confesses to the crime
Uzuzole Goqwana (22), who is identified as the alleged mastermind of the plot, confessed to his role in organising the murder. That was according to the South African Police Service's lead investigator in the case, who also noted that a second accused, Sinebongo Qase, also allegedly confessed to his involvement.
Police allege that Goqwana made payments totalling R60,000 to those who carried out the killing. Investigators further alleged that Goqwana attempted to flee after the shooting, reportedly trying to catch a flight to OR Tambo International Airport before being arrested the day after Tete's death.
