GAUTENG — An eighth suspect, described by police as the alleged mastermind behind an illegal electricity connection syndicate operating in the Emfuleni Local Municipality, has been taken into custody after her release on bail in an unrelated case.

The Gauteng Provincial Kwagga Task Team (PKTT) carried out the arrest as part of a continuing crackdown on a syndicate accused of electricity theft and the deliberate destruction of municipal services infrastructure. Seven other suspects linked to the same syndicate had already been apprehended before her arrest, bringing the total number of accused to eight. Police confirmed that investigations remain active and that further arrests are anticipated as law enforcement works to dismantle the broader network believed to be responsible for the illegal connections across the municipality.
