GAUTENG — A 54-year-old South African man was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport on 3 September 2026 after law enforcement officers found suspected cocaine concealed in his luggage. The suspect was preparing to board a flight to Hong Kong, China, when the discovery was made. The arrest happened a week after 333 kilograms of cocaine were seized at the airport.
South African Police Service spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk confirmed that the operation was intelligence-driven, with officers tracking the traveller through the terminal before making the interception. The exact weight and street value of the seized narcotics are yet to be confirmed, as samples have been sent for forensic analysis. The suspect faces formal drug trafficking charges and is expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court.
