DURBAN — Three suspected robbers were killed and a fourth wounded following a joint police and private security operation in the Mayville and Cato Manor area of Durban on Wednesday afternoon.
According to eNCA, the operation began at approximately 14:00 when Marshall Security's Special Operations Team, working alongside SAPS District Trio Tracing, Metro Trio, and Homeland Security, received intelligence that a group of suspects was preparing to carry out a business robbery.
Robbery on Brickfield road triggers pursuit
Before officers could intervene, the suspects carried out a business robbery on Brickfield Road in the Overport area. Responding units identified the suspects' vehicle and gave chase, during which those inside opened fire on officers and their vehicles.

The high-speed pursuit moved through several streets before the suspects' vehicle eventually stopped on Mary Thipe Street in the Manor Gardens area. Three of the four suspects were declared dead at the scene. The fourth survived the incident.
Multiple firearms were retrieved by authorities following the confrontation.
Investigation ongoing
Marshall Security, SAPS District Trio Tracing, Provincial Criminal Intelligence (MDOC), Metro Trio, and Homeland Security all remained on the scene as the investigation continued. Authorities indicated that no further operational details would be released while the scene remained active.
Suspects killed in shootout with police in Inanda
In similar news, three suspects wanted in connection with a series of armed robberies have been killed following a shootout with police. eNCA journalist Dasen Thathiah reported the incident on X, noting that it happened in Bester, Inanda, Durban, on Monday, 13 July 2026, following an intelligence-led operation. Authorities also confirmed that the suspects had been sought over multiple armed robberies, including house robbery incidents in the area. Police indicated that investigations were ongoing as they worked to establish whether additional suspects remained at large.
5 suspects killed in shootout with police
Previously, Briefly News reported that KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) police were involved in a shootout with suspects in the Chatsworth area on Monday, 8 September 2025. The suspects were wanted for various violent crimes in the Durban area, including murder, house robberies, and extortion. The police confirmed that the youngest member was only 17, while the eldest was in his 20s. Netshiunda noted that it was alarming how youngsters were frequently involved in violent crimes.
